We Are... Bartholomew Financial Literacy Coalition

Who We Are

The Bartholomew County Financial Literacy Coalition (BCFLC) is a volunteer group comprised of individuals from a variety of Columbus-based businesses, not-for profit agencies and educational institutions. The mission of the group is to improve awareness of financial literacy issues throughout the population. The Coalition was created in 2008.

Structure

The Coalition restructured its purpose, vision and goals in 2014 following a series of strategic planning sessions lead by the United Way of Bartholomew County and facilitated by Jack Hess, Executive Director for the Institute for Coalition Building. The United Way serves as the backbone organization and fiscal agent for BCFLC and hosts Coalition meetings.

Coalition Membership

The Coalition consists of over 40 organizations that have an interest in the financial wellbeing of the community and its residents. The entire membership meets on a quarterly basis. Meetings provide an opportunity for project groups to report on their work and seek input and direction from the broader membership.

Our Vision

Collaborate to increase financial literacy for people in all stages of life in Bartholomew County.

Our Work

Quarterly meetings are held from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. in the United Way Board Room on the third Wednesday of March, June, September and December.

Project Groups

Coalition members identified multiple project areas on which to focus their efforts. These small groups undertake much of the work of the coalition and meet as determined by the group.

Our Goals

Educate - Coordinate educational opportunities that enable youth and adults to increase financial well-being

Support - Empower individuals and families across all continuums through mentoring, coaching, and accountability to achieve financial stability and capability

Connect - Connect people and resources using an organized system of communication, through a shared vision and common language

The Guiding Team leads and coordinates the programs and projects and meets on a monthly basis.
